San Diego, Part 1: The Marathon

We are back from our trip to San Diego and ready for things to settle down (we only spent 9 nights at our house in the month of May)! Because we had such a fun-filled time, we decided to break the trip up into separate blogs.

The main reason we went to San Diego is so I could run the Rock 'n Roll Marathon. Every couple of years, my company pays for all the expenses (flight, hotel, pre-race dinner, race fee, and rental car) of one marathon in the U.S. Two years ago I ran Chicago and had a great time. When I received the email that they would sponsor the San Diego marathon, I knew I had to do it just for the free trip to one of my favorite cities. I told myself that since the hardest part of training was during my busiest time at work, I wouldn't train as hard as last time and just plan on finishing the race.

Well I re-learned a very valuable lesson - it isn't worth doing something if you aren't going to give it your best shot. The marathon was extremely difficult and very painful to finish. But, hey, I did finish and now need to find another marathon to redeem my time!

Here are some pictures of the event:

The Grant Thornton Denver Team. Overall Grant Thornton paid for 230 employees from all over the world to participate in the marathon.

Olivia pre-race in the hotel room! We have been trying to get Olivia to say "Da-Da" for weeks now and she decided to bust it out for the first time on race day (no kidding).

Mile 20. I am hurting pretty bad at this point!

Jamie!

Congrats on finishing the marathon, even though it was not the most comfortable or pleasurable thing. Good job. Also, yay for Olivia saying, "da da!"
